Urostomy

A urostomy is an abdominal wall opening that allows urine to leave the body through a stoma. It is also know as an ileal conduit. A urostomy takes the place of a persons bladder when it can no longer function or when surgeons must remove it. During the procedure, a surgeon creates an opening in abdomen, called a stoma and a piece of your small intestine is used to remove urine from your body through that opening.
